Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In memory of Alan Price, we have built this fundraising page so that everyone who loved him can donate money rather than buy flowers. We have chosen Parkinson's UK and want to raise much needed funds to help eradicate or ease the pain for those who suffer this condition, as well as the hardship it causes to their families.

Dad finally lost the fight on the 21st of Dec 2024 after suffering for too many years.

Originally the family thought a massive stroke was the big challenge, but he survived this. The worst was yet to come, Parkinson's disease came along and played a major part in controlling his last few years of life.

This disease causes a variety of symptoms, including involuntary movements and shaking of the hands. This meant holding his beloved pint went out the window or more, it got thrown over him. Cognitive impairment is also affected, and for Dad this was especially difficult at doorways, (we nicknamed this the Ali shuffle!). It also leads to mood and behavioural problems, sleep disorders, and constipation.

These symptoms made it difficult for him to perform everyday activities and led to walking disability which eventually resulted in the need for a wheelchair.

Many people with Parkinson's disease eventually develop dementia, such was the case for my dad Alan. This severely impacted his memory and thinking. Dementia is a leading reason why people with Parkinson's disease transition from a normal way of life to needing 24hour a day care.

The family asks for no flowers at the funeral, but rather if you want to donate, then let’s put it to a good cause, the family can only thank you for the support and kindness!
