Those who know me well know that cycling is more than a passion – it’s a platform I use to raise money for cancer charities. It’s taken me across the globe on all types of terrain, through rugged and inhospitable landscapes, deserts, national parks, jungles, mountains, and coastlines – from epic climbs to unforgettable descents. But two continents still elude me: South America and Antarctica.

I had signed up for the South America Epic, but like many dreams, it was paused by the pandemic. My deposit is still there, and one day I hope to complete that journey. But for now, my focus is closer to home – and no less meaningful.

In May 2026, I’m taking on a new challenge: cycling 300km in 3 days from Seville to Marbella to raise vital funds for Velindre Cancer Centre, Wales’s leading cancer hospital – a place of hope, healing, and world-class care.

Before I hit the Spanish roads, I’ll be warming up with Battle on the Beach in Wales in March 2025 a fast, unpredictable race through Pembrey Forest and the wild Burry Port sand dunes. It’s muddy, gritty, and totally exhilarating. And that’s not all – I’ll be adding more personal cycling challenges throughout the year to keep momentum and motivation high.

Why I’m Riding

The physical challenge fuels my wellbeing, and the sense of purpose that comes from riding for a cause like Velindre gives every mile deeper meaning.

I’ll be joining 60 like-minded cyclists, led by Velindre President Jonathan “Jiffy” Davies, united by one powerful cause: to support those fighting cancer, and to honour those we have loved and lost.

Velindre offers outstanding care, support, and treatment to thousands of patients and families. Every mile we ride is in their honour.

Velindre is recognised as The Hospital Of Hope, and this is made possible because of the fantastic and committed support of our donors and fundraisers.

Your fundraising efforts and donations help us continue to be the leading provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales. It allows us to fund projects which improve the experience and outcomes of patients receiving care and support here.

With your support, we are able to offer better quality of care through complex treatment pathways, earlier access to cutting edge treatments, research into new treatments, purchase specialist equipment, fund invaluable support services and resources along with ensuring our staff have access to the most up to date training and techniques available.

It really is difficult to overstate the difference fundraising makes here at Velindre, but the benefits are invaluable.

The Main Event – Seville to Marbella

Across three unforgettable days, we’ll cycle through the heart of Andalusia – from the flamenco-filled streets of Seville, through sun-drenched vineyards, olive groves, and whitewashed villages, over challenging climbs (averaging 1,000m per day) to the golden shores of Marbella.

It may sound glamorous – but it’s far from easy. It’s a true test of endurance, strength, and spirit. And for many of us, it’s an emotional roller coaster. We’ll celebrate those who have rung the bell… and quietly remember those who lost the battle.
