Story

For someone who likes to over indulge and enjoys a boozy day / night out I never thought I would enjoy running as a hobby!

In 2021 I started small runs around Thornhill and found I enjoyed it. Whether sun, wind or rain - the fresh air and variety of routes was a change to my fitness routine and one that I have continued to this day….boring many of you in the process I know!!

In 2023 I decided to attempt my first half and raised money for Macmillan by entering the Cardiff Half.

2024 included another Cardiff Half plus an enjoyable first time running the Swansea Half in June.

I decided 2025 would be the year of the three Welsh City Half Marathons for me. Newport in April, Swansea in June and Cardiff in October. My own personal challenge, all enjoyable in their different ways and a PB set also!

Throughout 2025 though there has been an itch I needed to scratch. A tick on my bucket list. I wanted to compete in a marathon and this is the one that completes my running journey.

I am proud and honoured that I have been able to secure a place in the London Marathon 2026, running again for Macmillan.

As part of my training I have signed up for the Llanelli Half in February which could be an interesting course that time of year. I am also running the Big Moose Half at Bute Park in April.

These two will form part of a wider training plan. It is going to be challenging with some difficult days and weeks, but knowing I am raising money to assist such a great charity is the added motivation I need.

Macmillan give people with cancer everything they’ve got. They do whatever it takes but without your help they cannot support everyone who needs them.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe via JustGiving and once you donate, they send your money directly to the charity.

So…. if you can spare any money to help me support this fantastic charity then it would be massively appreciated!

Thanks all

Neil (Franco)
