The British Lymphology Society is a dynamic and innovative body providing a strong professional voice and support for those involved in the care and treatment of people with lymphoedema and related lymphatic disorders, including lipoedema. The Society seeks to achieve high standards of care and equitable access to treatment across the UK and promotes early detection and intervention and, where appropriate, screening and prevention. The Society was established in November of 1985, originally as the British Lymphology Interest Group (BLIG).

Story

Running for Better Lymphoedema Care - Chester Marathon 2025

This October I’m running my first marathon — the Chester Marathon — to raise funds for the British Lymphology Society (BLS). The timing couldn’t be more fitting: it’s the day before the BLS Annual Conference and Lymphoedema study day in Chester, where Patient Choice is proud to be a Bronze Sponsor.

Why I’m Doing This:

It’s been almost 20 years since I last did any fundraising, but this challenge feels important and personal. The BLS has played a significant role in my life and in the journey of Patient Choice. Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of learning from their members, working alongside them, and seeing the difference they make for patients. This has enabled us to improve services and save millions in NHS spending on lymphoedema products. None of that would have been possible without the clinicians, patients, and colleagues we’ve met through BLS.

Why Support BLS?

The BLS supports clinicians and researchers who are dedicated to improving lymphoedema care. Their work directly impacts thousands of patients across the UK, supporting vital projects that improve services and strengthen care. Raising funds will help BLS continue to grow their impact, expand their reach, and support people living with a condition that is often overlooked.

How You Can Help:

- Donate: Every pound makes a difference. Your support will help BLS continue their vital work.

- Share: If you can’t donate, please share this page with friends, family, and colleagues.

- Encourage: Send a message of support — I’ll be carrying them with me on marathon day!

A Personal Challenge:

I’ve run 10k races and half marathons before, but never a full marathon. This is a huge step up for me, and my training is ramping up fast. On 5th October, I’ll be pushing myself to 26.2 miles — and every step will be for BLS, for the patients and clinicians they support, and for everyone who believes we can improve care together.

Thank you for your support — whether through donations, shares, or encouragement. Together, we can make this marathon count for something bigger than miles.
