Story
At Neilsons, helping people move into homes is at the core of what we do. Every day, we see the difference that having a secure place to live can make. But we also recognise that for many people in Edinburgh, that security is far from guaranteed.
That’s why, from 1 April 2026, we are proud to be partnering with Four Square, a local charity supporting people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
As a business rooted in Edinburgh for nearly 50 years, supporting our community has always been important to us. This partnership feels particularly meaningful because it connects closely with our work. While we help people buy and sell homes, Four Square supports those facing far more complex challenges in accessing safe and stable housing.
Four Square provides vital services across the city, including supported accommodation, mentoring and specialist advice. They also run the Edinburgh Furniture Initiative, one of Scotland’s largest furniture reuse social enterprises, where donated items are sold at affordable prices to generate funding for their frontline work. In addition, The Park Café in Saughton Park Gardens offers a welcoming space for the community to come together.
This partnership comes at a critical time. In 2023, the City of Edinburgh Council declared a Housing Emergency, and since 2020, homelessness in the city has nearly doubled. Demand for support continues to grow, placing increasing pressure on organisations like Four Square.
Over the coming year, our team will work closely with the charity to raise funds, support their initiatives and encourage donations of furniture and household items that can be reused to help others create a home. We will also be hosting events to bring together our staff, clients and the wider community in support of this work.
We know we cannot solve the housing crisis alone. But together, we can make a meaningful difference.
If you are able to, please consider making a donation. Your support will help Four Square continue providing practical, life-changing services to people across Edinburgh — helping more individuals and families move towards a safe, stable place to call home.
