Story
I’m taking on the London to Brighton cycle this year to support Whittington Health Charity — and in particular, the trauma and orthopaedics department at Whittington Hospital.
This will actually be my second time doing it. I attempted it last year, but it didn’t quite go to plan — my bike chain broke 5 miles before the finish line and didn’t really got to finish it properly… so there’s definitely a bit of an itch to come back and do it right this time.
Now, the sobby bit: Not long ago, I had a bike accident that resulted in a broken wrist and surgery-yes, the right wrist and I’m right handed. It wasn’t the easiest experience, but the care I received made all the difference. The team in trauma and orthopaedics were absolutely fantastic — the whole experience at the hospital felt smooth, and everyone I encountered was incredibly compassionate, attentive, and genuinely helpful.
Recovery has definitely slowed me down and forced me to be more patient with myself, but this ride feels like the perfect motivation to really get back on track and, most importantly, get back on my bike.
It will be a full circle moment — going from being the one needing care to being able to move again, rebuild strength, and give something back.
If you’re able to support, any donation — big or small — will go towards helping the team continue the amazing work they do for people like me every day.
Thank you so much 🤍
