You will be aware of the terrible floods in northern Nepal on 26th August that have caused hundreds of deaths with thousands more still missing. Wikipedia is maintaining a very good and comprehensive summary of the background, causes and current status.

The Britain-Nepal Society, which has been helping and supporting our many friends in Nepal since 1961, always offers victims support and help when disasters of this sort strike the country. Our Charitable Trust is providing some money from its contingency fund, but we are keen to supplement this as much as we can to help and support the many Nepalis in dire need - particularly the most vulnerable: the orphaned children, the pregnant women who have lost husbands and homes, and families who have lost everything.

On 12th October the Trustees made the first allocation of appeal funds, some £45,000, to NGOs who will be helping those whose lives have been devastated by the disaster. This has only been possible because of donors' generosity, and on behalf of the beneficiaries in Nepal the Trustees would like to thank those of you who have contributed. For those of you who haven't yet made a donation please consider doing so! Your contributions will be put to very good use and hugely appreciated by those whose lives have been destroyed by this disaster.
