On 26 August 2026, a catastrophic flash flood swept through communities along the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa district, northern Nepal. The sudden surge of water, mud and debris destroyed homes, roads, bridges and essential infrastructure, leaving families displaced and communities cut off.

Lives have tragically been lost, many people remain unaccounted for, and rescue operations are continuing. Survivors urgently need safe shelter, food, clean drinking water, clothing, medicines, hygiene supplies and support to rebuild their lives.

The Gurkha Centre is launching this emergency appeal in solidarity with the people of Nepal. As a UK-registered charity with deep roots in the Gurkha and Nepalese community, we are calling upon our supporters, friends and the wider public to stand with those affected during this humanitarian emergency.

Your donation will help provide:

• Emergency food and clean drinking water
• Temporary shelter, blankets and essential clothing
• Medicines, hygiene supplies and basic necessities
• Assistance for children, older people and families in vulnerable circumstances
• Longer-term recovery support for affected households, subject to assessed needs and available funds

Every contribution—large or small—can make a meaningful difference. A donation of £10 can help provide essential food and drinking water, while larger donations can contribute towards emergency shelter, medical supplies and support for families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

The Gurkha Centre will work through appropriately verified partners and community networks in Nepal to ensure that funds reach affected communities responsibly. We will undertake the necessary safeguarding, financial and due-diligence checks before transferring funds. Updates will be published explaining how much has been raised, where assistance has been delivered and how donations have been used.

If funds raised exceed the immediate requirements of this emergency response, any remaining funds will be used to support the recovery and welfare of communities affected by flooding and related disasters in Nepal, in accordance with The Gurkha Centre’s charitable purposes.
