Story
i’ll be taking part in the dougie mac moonlight walk on friday 19th june in memory of my fabulous nana.
i just wanted to share a small part of my nana’s dougie mac story and why this cause is so important to me.
last may, my nana was taken into a&e after becoming poorly overnight. after weeks of tests, it was discovered that she had stage 4 glioblastoma, an incredibly aggressive and cruel form of brain cancer. my nana was so brave undergoing multiple rounds of radiotherapy and starting chemotherapy, but the illness was just too aggressive. her memory was fading quickly and it was clear it was only getting worse.
by the end of september, the dougie mac had taken her into their care and she spent her final month with them. those four weeks were filled with so much compassion and the nurses made sure she was comfortable every day. it’s so hard to find the right words to describe how incredible the staff are. they treated my nana with so much dignity and provided comfort to my grandad, my mum and me when we needed it the most, making an impossibly difficult time just a bit easier to navigate.
i’m walking to say thank you to the hospice, and celebrate the life of such a fabulous, loving and iconic woman who was so loved and is so missed by all. i will endure a lifetime of missing you for the privilege of loving you.
any support means the world, let’s do this for hils🩷
