Story

Skanda Vale Hospice: Holistic Palliative Care in West Wales

Skanda Vale Hospice offers free, individualised palliative care for people living with life-limiting illnesses, and for the families and friends who support them. Its care starts with the person, not the condition, by recognising that physical needs must be balanced with emotional, spiritual and social concerns.

The hospice now supports people in three connected ways. First, overnight respite offers four-day, 24-hour stays in a warm, homely setting, giving patients and carers time to rest, reset and receive expert support. Second, the day hospice provides therapies, activities, assisted bathing, home-cooked meals, peaceful gardens, practical guidance and companionship. Third, the remote companion service brings regular phone or video support to people who cannot easily travel, helping reduce isolation and create space for honest conversation.

This is care with time, attention and humanity. Patients can access nursing support, complementary therapies, practical planning, spiritual care and help with Advance Care Plans. Families and friends are welcomed too, with support shaped around what each person needs most.

Skanda Vale Hospice was founded in response to a clear gap in conventional care: the need to support the whole person at the end of life, not only their medical symptoms. It remains primarily volunteer-led, independently funded and guided by compassion, humanity, trust, respect, commitment and accountability.

Every donation helps Skanda Vale Hospice protect what makes its care distinctive: time to listen, space to rest, support for families, and dignity for people facing life-limiting illness. It helps keep services free, strengthens a volunteer-led model, and allows the hospice to develop care for more people across West Wales.

Ultimately, a donation to Skanda Vale Hospice helps protect the simple promise that no one should feel alone at the end of life.
