Story
Join us by supporting New Inn Wanderers FC's biggest fundraising year in 2024.
Since 2010, we have been raising thousands of pounds for local charities and individuals in need. This year, we are rallying behind one of our former players, Paul "Sharpy" Sharp, who is bravely fighting Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Throughout this year, we at New Inn Wanderers FC will be fundraising in support of Motor Neurone Disease Association. Our fundraising will culminate in our annual charity Football match at Gresley Rovers FC's Moat Ground on the morning of Sunday 25th August - followed by a Food, DJ and live music The New Inn Woodville. We will be hosting a series of events throughout the year to support MNDA's cause, which is close to the hearts of many
The lifetime risk of developing MND is around 1 in 300. The exact cause of the disease remains unknown and funding for research to understand this and ultimately develop treatments is much needed. The MND Association is committed to the care of people living with and affected by MND and, through our research funding, to a world free of MND.
Previous studies have tried to determine if exercise or head impact from contact sports have caused increased risk of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, motor neurone disease (MND)and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). In the past decade evidence has emerged suggesting a potential link between contact sport participation including football and American Football (NFL) and an increased risk of neurodegenerative disease. Evidence in other sports such as rugby, and whether specific aspects of contact sport participation or wider factors related to athleticism are directly linked to MND, is currently lacking.
Scientific research costs money and, sadly, there is a limit to the budgets available to MNDA. As we go through the year, please do contribute wherever you can in support of the phenomenal work the charity is already involved in, and will continue to do.
