Hi, I’m Eric Kostrzak.

I was born with cerebral palsy, and as you can imagine, I’ve faced significant physical challenges throughout my life. Simple daily tasks like eating, brushing my teeth, or getting out of bed aren’t possible without assistance. Because of this, I’ve never been able to live independently.

For the past 41 years, my amazing parents have provided me with full-time care. But now, at ages 79 and 75, they simply can’t keep up with the demands of caregiving any longer. It’s not easy for any of us to admit, but we know it’s time for the next chapter.

After a long and careful search, I’ve found a place that gives us all hope: Matthias Academy, a Wisconsin-based organization that provides housing and care for adults like me — people with physical and developmental disabilities who want to live safely, with dignity and community.

To make this move a reality, we need to fund the construction of a specially designed home within the Matthias Academy community. My family has already contributed significantly, and we’re halfway to the goal. With your help, I can move into my new home by 2026.

We are asking for your help in a very real time of need. Our parents have devoted their lives to caring for Eric, and we’ve watched them do so with love, strength, and tireless dedication. But the reality is that they can no longer keep up — and the care Eric needs can’t wait.

Matthias Academy is an adult day program in Benet Lake, Wisconsin. Matthias Academy serves adults with moderate to severe disabilities, intellectual disabilities, medical needs, behavioral needs and varying degrees of autism. Matthias Academy offers opportunities, classes and experiences while bringing the surrounding community into our facility.
