Story

At Newmarket Holidays, we believe that access to sustainable safe water, sanitation, and hygiene is a fundamental right for every community around the world. Safe water changes everything. It improves health, education, and women’s rights; it leads to secure food sources, economic growth, and brighter futures. It completely transforms lives, especially those of women and children.

In a small community where Kwakalelo Primary School serves 249 eager learners and dedicated teachers, the struggle for clean water is a daily reality. The school once relied on a well located on its grounds; however, climate change has caused this vital resource to dry up. Now, the school depends on plastic water tanks that simply cannot hold enough water to meet their needs.

This dire situation forces students—often the girls—to embark on long journeys each morning before classes begin to fetch dirty water from a river miles away. This contaminated source not only threatens their health but also disrupts their education as they miss valuable learning time. The lack of proper sanitation facilities further exacerbates these challenges, making it difficult to control the spread of diseases.

We are grateful for your support as we aim to raise funds for the construction of a rainwater harvesting tank at Kwakalelo Primary School. This tank will provide safe water year-round by capturing rain from the school’s roof during rainy seasons. Additionally, Just A Drop plans to install handwashing stations throughout the school grounds and implement Menstrual Hygiene Training as part of an overall Health Club program.

Together, we can ensure that every child at Kwakalelo Primary School has access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities—transforming their lives and futures for the better. Join us in this vital mission; your contribution can make all the difference.
