Nic & Jen's fundraiser for Romsey Cancer Support Centre - Jane Scarth House

Jennifer Chapman is raising money for Romsey Cancer Support Centre - Jane Scarth House

Marathon Du Medoc · 6 September 2025

Jane Scarth House is a local charity, founded in memory of Romsey Mum of two, Jane Scarth, whose family are closely involved with the charity. We provide emotional & practical support to anyone whose life is affected by cancer. This can be the person living with cancer or those who support them.

Story

For those that know Nic and me, you know we love cycling, we love our yearly cycle challenges whether it's cycling the French Alps following the Route Napoleon or riding across the Dolomites in Italy. But, really we love a challenge. So, this year in support of one of our closest friends, we have swapped the 2 wheels for a pair of trainers and are running the Marathon du Medoc raising money for the wonderful charity Jane Scarth House Romsey.

There are an estimated 56,000 new cases of breast cancer in the UK annually. Receiving a cancer diagnosis is one of the scariest days most people will experience. There has been great advancement in research and treatment, but we wanted to raise the awareness for the support groups that are there in the background helping, befriending, advising and supporting.

We have witnessed how our lovely friend had to in an incredibly short period of time, absorb and process an astronomical amount of information and paperwork. Seeing her have to make super quick decisions on treatment and prepare herself physically and mentally for her challenge ahead, has been a real eye opener.

This is were Jane Scarth House do their amazing work. They provide a range of expert professionals and confidential services in a calming setting, helping people affected by Cancer from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. Their services range from Befriending (providing a friendly face and listening ear), Counselling, Self-Management Courses and Complementary Therapies. They are an invaluable support for those who are affected by Cancer.

Our Challenge - Marathon du Medoc.

Over the years both of us have run as part of the endless battle to keep fit, partaken in the lunchtime group runs, joined a Saturday morning park run, and gone out for a few miles / km's after work to clear the head. But none of this has been anywhere near marathon distance.

This marathon is a themed event and this year's theme is "The Sea" so not only will we be running 42.2km / 26.2 miles, but we will also be dressed as The Squid Dames. Yes, we will be running in a squid costume, tentacles and all...

Please sponsor us by donating in support of Jane Scarth House. (and maybe to see photos of us in our squid costumes)
