On 6th September 2025, I’ll be taking part in It’s How We Walk, a 43 mile walk — almost double the furthest distance I’ve ever done before — to help raise funds for my favourite (and awesome) charity, Stamma.

I am beyond happy that I’ll be joined by my family –Team Maddy, Team Slater and Team Wilson - my sons, Alfie and Theo, my husband James, my sister, Laura, brother in law, Paul and my niece and nephew, Evora and Will and my mum and dad. And of course, I’ll be with my lovely friend, the one and only Dean Ridge!

We’ll walk side by side, united by the belief that a world that makes space for stammering is possible.

Some of the people who are dearest to me, are people who stammer, and as a speech and language therapist, working with people who stammer for over 20 years, I’m deeply committed to celebrating the richness of every voice. Stammering is more than just talking. It can touch every part of daily life. Too often, those who stammer face shame, stigma, and misunderstanding, creating barriers to communication and connection.

Stamma work tirelessly to change public perceptions, to ensure society expects stammering, plans for it, and responds with empathy — so that no one feels they have to hide their voice or alone in their journey. Every single pound makes a difference. Your donation, or simply sharing my page, will help Stamma grow their training, support, and services, so that they can continue to change lives.

Please, if you can, donate and help take another step towards a world where stammering is understood and embraced.I know that I’m always doing a little fundraising event for STAMMA, so I totally understand that donating may not be a possibility again. A message from Stamma:

We are committed to tackling public perceptions of what it means to stammer and remove the shame, stigma, intolerance and misunderstanding experienced by people who stammer. Our plan over the next few years is to push EVERY organisation to ensure they are  accessible to people who stammer and normalise stammering. So that people expect it, plan for it, respond better.

To achieve this, we need to scale up our training, support and services. So whatever you can raise for STAMMA will be appreciated.
