Story
Hi my name is Nic Rotton and I live in Gedling, Notts
I am a sufferer on a rare disease called Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA) which is one type of the Vasculitis group of diseases and which affects as few as 3 people in 100,000 here in the UK. I was diagnosed in June 2021 and it initially impacted my kidneys and spleen before returning again in 2024 to affect my sinuses and leave me partial deaf. I was told in October last year that I am in remission.
I have a desire to raise awareness of this rare disease and raise some funds to support the charity Vasculitis (UK) in searching for a cure.
Vasculitis UK https://www.vasculitis.org.uk/ is the primary UK charity for Vasculitis, formed in 1992 and the income received from fundraising goes towards supporting vasculitis patients, raising awareness of vasculitic diseases and helping to fund essential vasculitis research.
Their Helpline and their Facebook page (which has around 8,500 followers) have been a huge support for me personally especially in the low, lonely moments when you really need an empathic ear. They provide a calming voice having detailed knowledge on almost all subjects you will encounter on your Vasculitis journey.
My target is to raise £5,000
For those that remember the infamous Rotton Rambles then they are back only this time we are taking on Vasculitis head on
So here's my plan
I am a huge Nottingham Forest fan so have wanted to visit as many opposition grounds as possible however, despite my remission, I am still totally immunocompromised and so actually visiting grounds or being in large crowds are restricted by my doctors, so I have committed to complete this as a virtual challenge.
I have worked out that to travel to all the other Prem grounds in a circuitous route starting and finishing at the City Ground would equate to just over 950 miles (proposed route to be NFFC,MCFC, MUFC, LFC, EFC, BFC, NUFC, SFC, LUFC, THFC, WHFC, AFC, BFC, CFC, FFC, CPFC, BHFC, BFC, WWFC, AVFC, NFFC)
Therefore my plan to meet this distance and to push myself to my limits is to do the equivalent of 30 Olympic Triathlons in 30 days here in the Notts/Gedling area. My challenge would be to swim 1 mile, bike 25 miles and walk (RAMBLE!) 6 miles each day but not necessarily straight after each other or necessarily in that order but each one to be completed each day. The resulting 32 miles a day over 30 days will then result in me achieving my target
