Story
Today our daughter is going out for lunch with her grandparents. On Friday she wants to go to the cinema and in September she is starting a new school. All pretty normal events, but for us it feels close to miraculous.
Over the last four years our beautiful girl has battled with debilitating anxiety, depression, self harm and suicide attempts. She struggled to leave the house or to attend school and it felt like we had lost our funny, loving, quirky girl.
Eighteen months ago I stumbled across the Parenting Mental Health Facebook group. With the support of their wonderful community and the wisdom of PMH founder Suzanne Alderson’s life changing book and course, things started to change for us.
We were no longer isolated and alone on the terrifying journey that is parenting a child with poor mental health and we started to see tiny glimmers of hope in our daughter. Those glimmers became brighter and bigger and she is now on the road to recovery.
Parenting Mental Health gave us our daughter, our relationship and our lives back and that is why I am taking part in their Big Picnic Fundraiser on the 29th August.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for contributing to a charity that means the world to my family.
