Story
Hey! Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page for the Bristol Children’s hospital (the Grand Appeal) & the Neonatal intensive care Unit at St Michaels hospital (cots for tots)
We want to raise as much money as we can for this amazing charity as the 5th of feb 2024 was supposed to be a exciting for us all…It was our 20 week scan and we were finding out the gender of our 2nd baby!! We’ve been quite relaxed about this pregnancy not really believing it’s happening, as we were so shocked to find out we were pregnant naturally after our struggles and IVF rounds to conceive Leo but by the 20 week scan surely we can start to be excited then?
Sonographer… “I think there maybe a slight shadowing around babies heart it’s hard to tell I will refer you to the cardiologist team” at this point me and James were just being hopeful it was a bad angle and everything was ok…
But unfortunately it wasn’t, we had lots of professionals check and scan baby and then they confirmed that our Baby Boy has a Congenital heart condition “Tetrology of Fallot” (Tof’s) which in basic terms means the heart hasn’t formed properly and has four defects & not enough oxygenated blood is getting around his body so at the moment our baby boy will need open heart surgery once born and a temporary shunt placed to help give more blood flow to the lungs then he will need more major surgery around 6 months for full repair surgery then more major surgery when he is around 10 and then key hole surgery through adult life.
We are relieved as baby boy doesn’t have any chromosomes abnormalities so it’s not apart of a syndrome it’s just one of those very unfortunate things that happens when a baby is developing in the womb.
Each day 12 babies are diagnosed with a congenital heart defect in the UK.The good news is, most children will survive surgery and have a very good quality of life. However, all major heart operations are very serious and this will be so hard for us all to deal with and we have some very tough days ahead however we are trying to keep positive and focusing on things we can do while baby is growing and we feel by raising money for this charity can help our baby and so many other babies and children who have life threatening conditions please help us raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity which is now going to be a big part of our lives thank you so much for your support.
