Story
On the XX of XXXX at xx:x I will be lacing up my service issue trainers and setting off from the virtual base camp for what will be a challenge not only of my physical stamina but also my personal resolve.
Mount Everest stands proudly 8,849m high. For context, this equals 3,871 flights or 58,070 steps. To add a level of contrast, it's the equilvilant of climbing up Big Ben 92 times.
My goal is to accomplish the challenge using a StairMaster and 'sumitting' at around 14 hours (give or take the odd 5 minutes here and there for toilet stops, refeeds and sightseeing 😀).
So, why me, why now and why the Trust?
The me and why now part, as I write this I currently have my arm in a sling post having my bicep reattached following surgery and as part of my rehabilitation and recovery I needed a target to keep me focused. I couldn't think of a higher target than Mount Everest so here we are.
So why the Trust? A couple of years ago I had the chance opportunity to attend the Annual Service of Rememberence at the National Memorial Arboretum. This would be a day I would never forget for many reasons but the one point I would like to share is around how humbling it all was. We all know that the job of the firefighter is dangerous and unfortunately sometimes our colleagues make the ultimate sacrifice whilst helping their colleagues and the communities they serve. It was at this point when the Chair of the Trust presented the family of a fallen firefighter with the Firefighters Memorial Medal that I knew I had the compassion, energy and drive to support the Trust and ultimately the families of those affected and play my part.
The Trusts main aim is to ensure we remember all those Firefighters that have died as a result of their duties, serving the communities where they live and work. This is accomplished by recording their names and their stories into the book of Rememberence (www.firefightersremembered.org.uk), by remembering and honouring them during the Annual Firefighters Service of Rememberence and maintaining sites around the country where families can visit and tributes can be paid.
I am humbled by the opportunity to raise funds for The Firefighters Memorial Trust. This cause holds a special place in my heart, and I am grateful for your support in helping us reach our fundraising goal of £500. Your generosity will honor the brave firefighters who have dedicated their lives to keeping our communities safe. Together, we can make a meaningful difference and ensure that their legacy is never forgotten.
With your donation, no matter how small, you are contributing to a cause that impacts countless lives. The Firefighters Memorial Trust relies on the kindness and compassion of individuals like you to continue their vital work. Your contribution will go directly towards supporting the families of fallen firefighters and maintaining the memorials that honor their sacrifice (www.firefightersmemorial.org.uk).
I invite you to join me in this important mission. Together, let's show our gratitude and support for these heroes who have given so much. Your donation, no matter the amount, will make a difference. Thank you for standing with us in this endeavor.
Forever Honoured,
Forever Remembered.
