Nick and Linda’s fundraiser for British Heart Foundation

Nicholas Green is raising money for British Heart Foundation

Walking The Ridgeway · 2 August 2026

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

One year ago I had a major heart attack (delightfully named the widow maker) while on holiday in Lanzarote. I owe my life to the speed of the paramedics who got me to hospital for immediate surgery. In the words of the surgeon, ‘I was lucky’ on that day.

When I came home I found that having my HA outside of the country meant that I was outside the NHS ‘system’ and needed to wait many weeks before finally getting NHS care. In those early weeks I relied on the help and advice offered by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) - particularly being able to speak to their cardiac nurses.

So to help repay their advice and help, Linda and I are raising funds for the BHF by walking The Ridgeway, one of England’s national trials. In the last 12 months I’ve been very determined to gradually build my fitness and heart strength. Although I’ve done longer challenges, this feels as big as any given the events of last year. The route we have planned is 93 miles which we’ll complete early in August over 6 days.

Please support us in anyway if you can. Many thanks.
