Story
Welcome to my TCS London Marathon 2025 profile page for Diabetes UK.
In February 2024, our lives changed when my 7 year old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
The 4 days in hospital were a whirlwind as the doctors successfully reduced her levels and we learnt how to calculate her blood glucose levels, count carbs, calculate how much insulin was required and administer an injection successfully, all so we could safely take her home and adapt to the new normal.
Despite her life turning upside down, she took it all in her stride and has been so brave throughout the whole process. She quickly understood play dates would never be quite the same, school would be a bit different, everytime she wanted to eat something nice she would have to have an injection and she would need to constantly monitor her sugar levels.
The support we have received from the diabetes staff and the wider diabetes community has been amazing as well as her school where she receives round the clock attention.
Apparently someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes and more than 5 million people are living with diabetes in the UK right now.
There is also a worrying trend where the number of children and young adults with Type 1 Diabetes is also on the increase.
So, I'm running towards a healthier me, and a better future for people living with diabetes. Support my challenge by hitting the donate button on my profile page.
