Story
This year marks the 25th anniversary since my Dad sadly passed away and in his memory I set myself the challenge of both running the London Marathon in April and then attempting alongside my Brother, James, to cycle 980 miles from Land’s End to John o’Groats.
The Marathon went well and I was able to achieve my target of finishing in under 4 hours and beating my time from 2009!
More importantly I’ve already been able to raise valuable funds for the British Heart Foundation and I am so grateful of all the support I’ve received so far.
After swapping my trainers for cycling shoes, I’ve been back on the bike over the past few months and my training has gone well. I’m pleased to say that I’ve just about completed the full distance in training and have a couple more rides to go before the start on 7th September - I just now need to do all those miles in 9 days and not 9 weeks…
Dad was only 49 when he unexpectedly left us, and as I turned 45 this summer it really brings it home.
In addition to an opportunity to remember Dad, and for me to try and get in shape, I am completing both events (JustGiving only allow you to select one at a time for the headline) to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support.
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people, like my Dad, lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target.
Many thanks!
Nick
