Jade's story
“They ended up asking me to leave. They said we had the choice to stay in that house, but we had to put our daughter in foster care, or for her to stay at that address, and us to leave. That’s the decision I made, to leave that house, because I wasn’t going to make my daughter go into foster care”.
After spending most of her life living in foster care, Jade had a baby and was living with her partner’s family. However, their relationship broke down and confronted with the choice of giving up her child to foster care or leaving her home, she chose the latter.
Jade got in touch with The Connection at St Martin’s. The Connection is a specialist service that enables people sleeping rough to find the support they want and a safe place to live in the very heart of London. She initially used The Connection for the basic services – showers, laundry, a hot meal.
She soon built a very strong relationship with her key worker Hannah, who helped her to get support and find a flat.
Yesterday, (27/07/24), as I cycled to Fenchurch Street along the Cycle Path CS3, I passed 9 tents on the pavement in Castle Baynard Street Subway. A brilliant dry site, like the bridges on the Regents Canal! But each tent carries a story like Jade's. Workers at the Connection work with different personal stories day-in and day-out ... if you can help me raise a £1000, please do.
If appropriate, please let me have a way of posting you my newsletter.
