Why I'm Putting on My Dancing Shoes for Hugs Children's Cancer Charity?

As a business owner in Plymouth, I feel a responsibility to give back to the city that has given so much to me and my family. At Beacon Electrical we have worked with a number of charities throughout our history most of which have been as a result of exposure to the amazing work that they provide, either directly or indirectly, and we passionately believe in looking to give back to our local community whenever possible.

Such as it was a friend and contact approached and asked me 2 simple questions:

‘Are you free in the 7th November?’ and ‘Can you Dance by any chance?’

The answers were easy – ‘Yes I am and No I cannot!

I was then introduced to Hugs a Plymouth-based Children's Cancer Charity that helps families across Devon and Cornwall who have a child with a rare childhood cancer, Hugs does extraordinary work with limited resources, run by people who have lived this experience themselves.

As such I was asked if I would participate in ‘Strictly Hugs Dancing 2026’ as one of the novice dancers and look to raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity, how could I possibly refuse.

That's why I've decided to step well outside my comfort zone and compete in a ballroom dancing contest. I may not be Fred Astaire, but I'll be giving every step, every turn, and every routine everything I've got — because the families that Hugs supports give everything they have, every single day.
