I will be running 10 kilometres a day for 10 consecutive days

St Catherine’s cares for patients and families who are affected by life-shortening conditions, at the hospice and in people’s own homes across Chorley, Preston and South Ribble. Our specialist care helps people enjoy the best possible quality of life to the end of life.

Story

I'm gearing up to take on a challenge that's not just about miles, but about making a difference. starting on the 17th May locally and finishing at the Manchester 10k on the 26th May, I'll be lacing up my running shoes and covering 10 kilometres a day for 10 consecutive days, all in support of St Catherines Hospice in Preston. While I may be running alone, my mission is anything but solitary. Every step I take is fueled by the support and generosity of individuals like you who believe in the power of giving back. By joining me in spirit, spreading the word, or contributing to the cause, you're making every kilometre count.

St Catherine's provides palliative and end-of-life care and support for the people of Central Lancashire, through their specialised services at the hospice and in people’s own homes. They are here to help people facing life-shortening conditions like cancer, motor neurone disease and heart failure to enjoy the best possible quality of life to the end of life. It costs more than £5m to run their charity every single year and they rely on the amazing efforts and wonderful generosity of supporters like you to help us raise the funds needed.

In November 2023, St Catherine’s provided end of life care for the wife of my work friend and mentor who was suffering with Motor neurone disease. Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. These neurons gradually degenerate, leading to muscle weakness, paralysis, and difficulty with speech, swallowing, and breathing. The care afforded to her and countless others have made me want to do something to contribute to the fantastic work they do.
