Story
On April 24th 2025, our lives were upended when Nick was rushed into hospital for high risk, emergency open heart surgery having collapsed whilst out on a run. A year later, his incredible recovery has inspired us to raise money for medical research.
Nick had suffered a Type A Aortic Dissection, a rare and often fatal condition. Thanks to the quick thinking and action of the other runners, he was taken straight to hospital where a CT scan revealed just how critical his condition was. After more than 12 hours in surgery, he was placed in a medically induced coma and the outlook was extremely bleak.
What followed was six weeks of terrifying uncertainty for all of us. We were told to prepare for the very real possibility that Nick may never wake up, or could suffer permanent neurological damage, if he did. His chances of survival, let alone a meaningful recovery, were frighteningly slim.
However, with courage and determination, along with support from the NHS team, Nick has made an amazing recovery against all the odds.
Medical research and raising awareness are crucial to ensure others are treated quickly so more families experience positive outcomes similar to ours.
Thanks for your support and any donations,
Pauline, Molly & Noah.
