All roads lead to Blakey Ridge

The Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team is a totally voluntary organisation. It exists to help save lives and assist injured and distressed people in Cleveland and the Western areas of North York Moors. In the 50+ years of its existence the Team has been involved in well over 1000 incidents.

Story

In May I had a big crash at a mountain bike race on the edge of the North York moors which unfortunately resulted in me breaking my back in 3 places.

Luckily for me the wonderful team from Cleveland Mountain Rescue were on hand to tend to my injuries and scoop me safely of the hill - by no means easy as i was lying on a steep slope 1km away from the nearest road.

Thanks to their efforts (and the team and James Cook hospital) i'm now fully recovered and back on the bike.

The Mountain Rescue team are all volunteers and rely on donations from the public to run the service. To help raise some money i'm going to do a big bike ride in October - exact TBC depending on the weather.

Blakey Ridge is the highest road on the North York moors, there are 9 routes to climb it and i'm going to attempt riding all of them in a day - a total distance of 132 km including 2,707m of climbing - i'm not that fit at the moment so it's going to HURT...

Any donations very much appreciated!
