Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge 2025 · 21 June 2025 to 22 June 2025 ·

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. We make it possible to live longer and better lives with myeloma. Through research and treatments, we find new ways to a cure. Together, we are the cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2021 I was diagnosed with Plasmacytoma, which can progress to Myeloma. I woke up in the middle of the night with terrible pain in my right leg. After months of numerous tests and biopsies, long discussions amongst Senior Doctors across the country a diagnosis was finally reached. With the help of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant at the BRI, I reached remission in 2023. Due to the nature of this illness, I will be monitored for life. I wanted to raise awareness of this charity and the condition through embarking on this challenge. Thanks to the amazing research of this charity, I was able to receive new treatments, that weren’t available 3 years prior!

On the 21st June 2025 I will be walking the Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge, a full continuous 100km loop with a few friends. I appreciate the target of £2000 is a lot, but if I can get anywhere near that total with your help it will go a long way to help provide comfort and reassurance to people affected by myeloma and fund research that improves diagnoses, treatment and care.

Solitary plasmacytomas are rare, with only about 300 cases per year in the UK. They are twice as common in men as in women, and solitary Extramedullary Plasmacytoma (SEP) is less common than solitary bone plasmacytoma (SBP). A Solitary Plasmacytoma most commonly occurs in people later in life, most often people in their 60s. The cause or causes of solitary plasmacytoma are unknown.

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. They provide information and support to patients and their families and help myeloma patients live longer, with a better quality of life by accelerating the discovery, development of and access to new treatments.

Myeloma UK is a charity solely funded by their supporters. They receive no funding at all from the NHS or government.

How the donations help

£20 could send our GP Diagnostic tool to 15 GPs, helping them to spot myeloma sooner.

£60 could provide an hour of free patient/family support through our Myeloma Infoline.

£125 could help us gather evidence for a drug appraisal to ensure effective treatments, like Lenalidomide, are available on the NHS.

£500 could help our researchers understand why myeloma cells become increasingly resistant to treatments, and develop new drugs to kill resistant cells.

£1,000 could support the development of a clinical trial to give patients early access to new drugs and therapies

I appreciate your support and thank you in advance for your donation.
