Story
I am delighted to be taking on the 2026 London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for the important work of Breathe Arts Health Research (Breathe).
Rebekah has done extensive work with this charity and fully persuaded me to run this with her to raise money for a great cause. Neither of us have ever run this far before so please donate to make our suffering worthwhile !
One of the programmes that Breathe runs every summer is the Breathe Magic intensive therapy programme. Rebekah says ‘as an occupational therapy student, I loved seeing how this programme improved the overall health and wellbeing for children and young people (7-19) with Hemiplegia which is an injury to the brain that leaves one sided weakness or paralysis to the body which makes everyday task challenging or impossible to do’ through a fun, goal directed therapy which is run by specialised occupational therapists, magicians and volunteer magic trainers, the children and young people are encouraged to use both their hands when (practicing magic tricks, working on their chosen goals, preparing and having their snack and lunch and making magicians uniform) it is tailored to their strengths and needs. They all work so hard to get positive results by the end of the programme which include improved hand function, have greater independence, improved self confidence and self esteem and have peer support from others. Children and young people are part of a magic show at the end with the magicians to show case to their friends and family what they have learnt. It was truly magical to see.
I loved being apart of it along side the wonderful breathe magic team who make this possible so I wanted to give back to such a worthy charity. Also, Other programmes are also run by this charity which I would encourage to look at if you would like to find out more
