National 3 Peaks · 13 June 2024

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

The What?

On June 13, 2024, a team of twelve friends and colleagues will start the National Three Peaks challenge.

As one of the most iconic trekking events in the UK, the National 3 Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. The challenge covers 42kms and involves 3,064 metres of ascent. Despite the popularity of the 3 peaks challenge, you shouldn’t under estimate the toughness of this challenge.

They will be led by an experienced guide from Adventurous Ewe where they will have 24 hours to summit all three peaks. To read more about the National 3 Peaks challenge, click here: https://www.adventurousewe.co.uk/trip/national-3-peaks-challenge/

The Why?

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

Dementia is the UK's biggest health and social care crisis. There are currently estimated to be 982,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is projected to rise to 1.4 million in 2040. The scale and the need to prevent, diagnose, support, live and die well with dementia will only become greater.

It is estimated 1 in 3 lives will be devastated by dementia in the future and the Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.

The How?

Alzheimer’s Society provide support from day one. Their Dementia Advisers provide critical support to people throughout their experiences with dementia. For both people living with the condition and their carers, dementia can be a complex maze, but thanks to you, they can access expert support over the phone or in person.

Alzheimer's Society research programme focuses on improving care for people with dementia today and finding a cure for tomorrow. They are the leading care and research charity for people with dementia in the UK. and are also the only dementia charity that funds all types of dementia research from basic biomedical through to clinical and care research.

Campaign for change to make dementia a priority, improve dementia diagnosis and provide quality social care.
