Climbing Ama Dablam for Age UK Sunderland
Hello everyone,
This year, I will be taking on one of the greatest challenges of my life: climbing Ama Dablam in Nepal to raise funds for Age UK Sunderland.
Often referred to as the "Mountaineer's Mountain," Ama Dablam stands at 6,812 metres (22,349 feet) and is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and technically demanding peaks in the world. Its steep rock faces, exposed ridges, ice-covered slopes, and high-altitude environment make it a true test of skill, determination, and resilience.
For decades, Ama Dablam has captured the imagination of climbers worldwide. Its dramatic shape was once considered so formidable that many early mountaineers believed it could not be climbed. Even today, it remains one of the most respected and challenging objectives in Himalayan mountaineering.
Reaching the summit requires months of preparation and specialist skills, including rock climbing, ice climbing, rope work, glacier travel, and the ability to perform in one of the harshest environments on Earth. The mountain demands physical endurance, mental toughness, and a deep respect for the risks that come with high-altitude climbing.
While this expedition is a personal challenge, my primary motivation is to support the incredible work of Age UK Sunderland.
Age UK Sunderland provides vital services and support to older people across the local community. From tackling loneliness and isolation to offering practical advice, wellbeing services, and companionship, their work helps improve the lives of countless older residents who may otherwise struggle without support.
As I prepare to take on the challenge of Ama Dablam, I hope to raise as much money as possible to help Age UK Sunderland continue delivering these essential services.
Every donation, no matter how large or small, will make a real difference. Your support will help ensure that older people in our community receive the care, connection, and assistance they deserve.
The journey to Ama Dablam will involve months of training, preparation, and commitment. Throughout the expedition, I will share updates on my progress so that everyone who supports the fundraiser can follow the journey from training at home to the slopes of the Himalayas.
Standing on the summit of Ama Dablam would be an incredible achievement, but knowing that the climb has helped support Age UK Sunderland would make the challenge truly meaningful.
Thank you for your generosity, encouragement, and support.
Together, we can make a difference while taking on one of the world's most iconic mountaineering challenges.
