Story

5 before 55 ....

Earlier this year I signed up for my 5th and final Marathon, which will be in Edinburgh... then I agreed to do the Newark Half Marathon on behalf of Beaumond House...

Somehow it evolved into taking part in 5 events before I'm 55! Eek!

The 5 events will be;

Lincoln 10k - April 12th EDIT - now done ✅

Edinburgh Marathon - May 24th

Heckington 10 mile - July 25th

Newark Half Marathon - August 16th

Woodhall Spa Triathlon - Sept 20th

These will be a huge challenge for me - not just physically and practically; managing work, training, family and home life, but also mentally.

Since we're on the subject of 5s...

2026 marks 5 years since a very long hospital stay; an extremely dark time for me, where I struggled to stay afloat. I lost all interest in everything and it took a long time to get back to finding joy in what I used to enjoy.

Running and Swimming has helped to give me that purpose, and I'm grateful I can use it now to help Beaumond House.

Working for Beaumond House Hospice Care; Hospice at Home, is a huge privilege. We are welcomed into people's homes at a really challenging time of their lives.

We strive to offer our deepest care, compassion, gentleness and smiles during their struggles - to both the patients and their families. Hopefully helping people of Newark and surrounding areas, to live well and to die well.

Beaumond House Hospice Care is a registered charity committed to providing supportive palliative care to patients and their families living in Newark and Sherwood.

This year, providing care and support to patients and their families is expected to cost Beaumond House a total of £2.8million. Statutory funding contributes around 21% towards this, leaving £2.2million which will need to be raised through donations, our shops, and support from local businesses throughout Newark and Sherwood.

Their care services are provided for people who have a life-limiting condition with palliative care needs, are over 18 years old and live in Newark & Sherwood.
