Story
Ten years ago in 2013 I had a diagnosis that completely changed how I thought my life would continue. By the end of the year I had started as fully sighted , I was now registered as Severely Visually impaired S.V.I /blind. I was diagnosed with a condition called Stargardts that is a rare form of macular degeneration.
During lockdown I had this idea that I’d like to walk from Scotland to my then home in Devon before I can no longer see the things I wish to see along the way.
This now appears to have grown somewhat and I am walking from the Orkney Islands , hoping across to John O Groats on the ferry and then following many of the U.K’s iconic long distance trails all the way to Lands End and the Scilly Isles. I will be talking to as many groups of people with visual impairment as I can along the way.
I am walking this solo and will be camping most of the way ( although hoping to beg a bed occasionally!)
I am yet again fundraising for Shooting stars children's hospice having seen first hand the level of support they offer to all those involved with a child in their care.
I am walking in memory of Arthur Meadows and those that never got the chance to feel the wind on their face , see the stars above them or dance upon the sand.
