I am taking part in the Manchester Marathon and raising awareness of Cadasil. I became aware of this condition when my sister in law was diagnosed with this illness. Cadasil is a rare, inherited type of vascular disease (a disease of the blood vessels and veins) that can cause dementia. Cadasil is caused by a faulty gene and there is no specific treatment at the moment. Most people with Cadasil will suffer strokes which commonly start when people are aged between 30 and 50 years old.
