Nicky's Running for the Multiple Sclerosis Society

Nicky Edwards is raising money for Multiple Sclerosis Society

Tokyo Marathon 2026 · 1 March 2026 ·

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

I'm running the Arc of Attrition, Tokyo Marathon (thank you to the MS Society for offering me a place to fundraise) and the Boston Marathon within 3 months.

Before my diagnosis, I was a chasing a big dream - to complete all six World Marathon Majors and run the 100 mile UTMB.

In 2024 the space of a few months, I went from running ultra-marathons to barely being able to walk to the end of the road. I had to use a mobility scooter to take my kids on a day out.

After 9 months of unexplained symptoms and frustration, I was finally diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I genuinely thought I might never run again. I was devastated. Running had always been my freedom, my therapy, my identity.

There’s currently no cure for MS. It’s unpredictable and, at times, frightening. But I’m determined that MS won’t stop me from fulfilling my dreams.

Training now looks very different. I have to adapt every session around my symptoms including pain, fatigue and weakness. Listening carefully to my body and celebrating every small victory. Some days are tough, but every step is a reminder of what I’ve already overcome - and what’s still possible.

I’m fundraising for the MS Society, who were a lifeline for me when I was newly diagnosed and searching for answers. Their website and resources helped me understand what was happening when the NHS couldn’t give me all the support I needed. The MS Society not only supports those living with MS, but also funds vital research into early diagnosis, treatment, and, one day, a cure.

Every pound raised brings hope — not just for me, but for thousands of others living with MS.

Thank you for reading my story and supporting this cause that means the world to me 💛
