Story
In 2024 a close friend of mine lost her son Archie at 18months. Archie was a huge part of my fitness community after coaching his mum Fiona throughout her pregnancy and then continuing after the pregnancy. Archie coming into the gym every week soon became one of my favourite parts of the week and when i heard the devastating news i was heart broken but not even close to the pain my friend Fiona and her family were facing. I new they were fund raising for the charity SUDC UK that provided support during this difficult time so i wanted to do what i could to help.
This is when i decided in 2024 to complete 18 marathons in 18days in memory of Archie. After i complete this and raised £42,500 i got the pleasure to attend one the SUDC UK meet ups where i heard other stories from parents that had lost a child and i was so overwhelmed with the strength and resilience by everyone there and the determination to bring more awareness to SUDC i knew i had to do more.
Then came the idea of taking on the biggest challenge of my life completing on a full Ironman despite the fact i can not swim , i am terrified of cycling on roads and well the run would be the easy part.
My goal is not only to complete the ironman 2.5 mile open water swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile run within 15 hours but to also raise £50,000, but i need your help. please help us support families and find answers to why this keeps happening and stop it from happening again.
You can make a difference and save a life thank you Nicola
SUDC UK is a registered, national charity dedicated to raising awareness, funding research and supporting families affected by Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).
SUDC is the sudden and unexpected death of a child aged 1-18 years where the cause of death remains unexplained after a thorough investigation. 40 children are affected every year in the UK, more than young child deaths due to traffic accidents, fires or drowning and comparable to 1-2 seemingly healthy children dying every fortnight. Thank you for your support.
