Story
Blackpool and Fylde Police Cadets are taking on their latest (and most gruelling?) challenge - a 16 hour Rough Sleep for Helping Hearts Fylde. The cadets (aged 13-18) first became aware of the charity last year and since then many of the senior cadets have helped out at their weekly soup kitchen. This event will be a chance for all of the cadets to participate - from sunset on the 20th December to sunrise on the 21st December, sleeping outdoors in the elements on what is classed as the longest night - leading into the Winter equinox (shortest day).
Founded in 2020, Helping Hearts Fylde has been supporting the entire Fylde Coast community. With the current cost of living crisis, the amount of people who rely on their service has increased by over 800%.
Helping Hearts are a wholly volunteer-led team that is only able to carry out their work in the community with thanks to your kind donations, allowing them to provide a food bank, baby bank, nutritious warm meals, drinks, toiletries, clothing and life saving equipment. They also source temporary respite accommodation, provide memorable family days out and events, cover the costs of private counselling, along with offering advice and signposting to external agencies. They also support people who need help with their energy bills, along with much more!
The cadets are undertaking this challenge in an effort to raise awareness and much needed funding for local families and individuals in need.
