Nicola's fundraiser for Katie Piper Foundation

Blackpool Half Marathon · 27 April 2025
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Life can change in an instant. On Sunday 19th May – the first hot, sunny weekend of the year – I went to bed, blissfully unaware of how drastically everything was about to change.
At 10:30 pm, my phone rang. I didn’t answer, but my heart sank because, let’s face it, calls at that time of night rarely bring good news. Moments later, my partner came up to tell me the news I was dreading: my sister Charlotte had been involved in a serious accident and suffered severe burns.
Charlotte’s partner (Ivor) was with her, and with a two-hour drive ahead of me, there was nothing I could do that evening. The next morning, as we (her son and sisters and brothers) arrived at the hospital, we learned just how critical her condition was. She’d been rushed into theatre overnight, were she suffered a cardiac arrest, and was now in intensive care.
The diagnosis was grim: 50% burns, ventilated, and fighting for her life.
Charlotte spent nearly two weeks in intensive care before being moved to a specialist burns unit for another four and a half weeks. Her journey has involved extensive skin grafts on her hands, arms, and thighs, plus multiple blood transfusions and as you can imagine, every single day since has been an emotional rollercoaster.
Recovery from burns of this magnitude isn’t just physical—it’s deeply emotional, too. And that’s where The Katie Piper Foundation has stepped in and made an immeasurable difference in Charlotte’s life.
The Katie Piper Foundation – A Lifeline for Burn Survivors
The Katie Piper Foundation has been nothing short of amazing. They’ve supported Charlotte every step of the way with their holistic approach to recovery. From counselling sessions to help process the trauma, to yoga classes, support groups, and tools to adjust to life after such a life-changing event, their work is truly inspiring.
Charlotte has been able to access services like camouflage makeup, wig specialists, and more—helping her feel confident and empowered in her appearance again. The Foundation’s support has given her hope and strength during what has been the most challenging time of her life.
Why I’m Running the Blackpool Half Marathon
To say thank you to The Katie Piper Foundation and to ensure they can continue their incredible work, I’ve decided to run the Blackpool Half Marathon on Sunday 27th April.
Every step I take, every mile I complete, will be dedicated to Charlotte and to burn survivors everywhere who rely on the lifeline this foundation provides.
But I can’t do it alone. I need your support to make a real difference.
How You Can Help
Every penny raised will go to The Katie Piper Foundation, helping them continue their vital work and support current and future burn survivors as they rebuild their lives.
Please consider donating whatever you can—it all adds up, and it all makes a difference.
Let’s Make a Difference Together
Charlotte’s journey is far from over, but with the support of The Katie Piper Foundation and the kindness of people like you, she’s facing the future with courage and hope.
Together, we can ensure that more survivors like Charlotte have access to the life-changing care and resources they need.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support.
