Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At the end of January 2024 I will be leaving the UK for a four week adventure in Peru…… its not your usual visit, in fact i ll be spending most of my time giving free swimming lessons and drowning prevention education to children in underprivileged communities, who live along the open waters of La Libertad Province in Peru. And to train local instructors to teach drowning prevention and life saving.
For me it will be 4th time lucky - fingers crossed ; Covid, work commitments, grandchildren…. 2024 I will finally be going! My main aim is to raise awareness of the importance of EVERY child learning to swim, and to be able to help another who might be in trouble, to understand where it is safe to swim and where it is not.
As a swimming teacher, the opportunity to participate in a project that will save lives and enhance the futures of these children is massively important to me. Drowning is one of the leading causes of death of children and young people. By providing them with the essential skill of swimming, I will not only help to save lives, but also open doors to employment opportunities and help support their families. However, I cannot do this alone, I need your help to support this project
A £5 donation buys equipment
£10 will pay for a child to learn swim
£25 will support the life saving learning projects
About the Project:
This annual project is organised by SwimTayka http://swimtayka.org/ and other swim charities, who are dedicated to reducing the alarming death rate of children in the sea.
Currently, over 80 children are enrolled in this program, and it is our goal to teach swimming skills to 100 children. With your generous contributions, we can provide them with the necessary resources, transportation, pool rentals, and equipment to make this project a success.
Why is this Project Important?
Learning to swim is not just about water safety; it is a gateway to numerous opportunities for these children in the future. By obtaining an "I can swim certificate," they significantly increase their chances of finding employment as swim teachers, lifeguards (both in the sea and in tourist hotels), and in various water-based professions such as windsurfing, surfing, jet skiing, and water skiing. Traditionally, these jobs have relied on foreigners, but by empowering local children with swimming skills, we can create sustainable income sources for them and their families.
How Your Contribution Will Make a Difference:
Every penny counts in making this project a resounding success. Your support will directly fund the children’s transportation to the swimming lessons, the rental of swimming pools, and the necessary equipment. Additionally, your contribution will help cover administrative costs associated with organising and executing the project effectively.
By ensuring that the project is fully funded, we can reach our goal of teaching swimming to 100 children, making a lasting impact on their lives and the community as a whole. Join the Cause: Your support will not only enable these children to acquire a vital life skill but also empower them to create a brighter future for themselves and their families. By contributing to this campaign, you become an essential part of this journey, spreading the joy of swimming and saving lives.
Together, we can make a real difference.
Please donate today and share this campaign with your friends, family, and social networks, help raise the awareness, or even send to someone your think would be interested in being a volunteer.
Your generosity will help us achieve our goal and change the lives of these children forever.
Thank you for being a part of this life-saving and life-enhancing project, I appreciate every donation no matter how big or small. It will make a massive difference to the lives of the children I will be helping.
