Amsterdam Marathon 2024 · 20 October 2024 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Unfortunately my Nanna Joan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease when I started running as a teenager and she never saw or understood my performances as a result.

Alzheimer's disease is a brain disorder which gets worse over time. Confusion, disorientation and getting lost became the norm and it was incredibly difficult to watch such a strong independent lady become a shell of her former self.

We were always very close as I was born on her birthday and therefore it’s about time I put this stubborn gene to good use! I will be running the Amsterdam marathon later this year in her memory and for all of those who have been affected by dementia. Alzheimer’s society continue to work tirelessly towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
