In April I will be doing the London Marathon and raising money for the wonderful charity Mision Mexico.

My wonderful friend Melissa runs Mision Mexico and works tirelessly to ensure her kids are not only looked after but that she works with the local community that runs programs to support development in the community.

Melissa told me about the Young Mothers Program so when I got my marathon place I asked her if the fund raised could go directly to this program.

Many young and single mothers in Tapachula, Mexico face a range of challenges, such as being trapped in abusive and violent relationships, limited opportunities for continuing their education, restricted access to secure jobs, mental and physical health issues, and a lack of positive parenting skills.

The Young Mothers Program was launched by Mision Mexico Foundation in July 2023 and designed for mothers aged 14 to 24 with children aged 0 to 3 years, with a focus on addressing their educational, emotional, and economic needs. The program provides comprehensive support, including positive parenting training, life skills, technical training, educational levelling, health & nutrition workshops and psychological support.

Mision Mexico Foundation also offers a safe, free day care for babies, enabling the young mothers to focus on their personal and professional development whilst taking part in the program.

Since launching in July 2023, the program benefitted 55 mothers and 77 of their babies.
