Story

Our Story:

I have decided to run 10k for a very small charity but very close to my heart. It will be for the North Care which helps fund the Intestinal Failure Unit at Salford Royal.

I know most people probably haven't heard of this due to the rarity of the illness as approximately 50 per million of people annually are diagnosed with Intestinal Failure a year.

Sadly, after two years of hospital appointments / tests my Grandma was diagnosed back in 2018.

Aside from transplant (which extreme) there are only two treatments for Intestinal Failure, one involves people receiving liquid medication intravenously via a central line and completely bypassing the digestive system, known as parenteral nutrition (PN) therefore meaning every patient and the other is by restoring gut continuity by way of surgical intervention.

Due to the rarity of the illness the research for this is very low of why this happens. Therefore I am running to help fund future research, to help patients dealing with the illness and more so.. to spread the awareness.

NorthCare Charity helps Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Foundation Trust deliver outstanding care across Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Salford by funding innovative equipment, education, research and wellbeing activities.

Any donation would truly be appreciated.

Thank you x
