Story
Many of you will know that our family's lives were rocked to the core by dementia when our beautiful Mum/Nan "Pat" suffered this devastating condition. Pat sadly passed away in 2020 but the challenging journey of dementia continues for so many families.
The Alzheimer's Society offered us a very much needed helping hand when it was difficult to know where to turn and offered valuable advice in order to support Pat with her complex needs.
I'm taking on the challenge of the Snowdonia Marathon Eryri on Saturday 28 October 2023 to raise money for The Alzheimer's Society. This is a brutal road marathon around the spectacular Snowdonia landscape with approximately 800 metres of elevation over the marathon course. This is the toughest thing I have ever signed up for!
Our family holds Snowdonia very close in our hearts after we spent some years living in the area. During our time there we suffered a great loss when my father died suddenly in 1991. I will be running in memory of both Mum and Dad.
Following Mum's diagnosis of dementia we have met many other individual and families who have experienced or are experiencing the harsh reality of supporting a loved one with dementia and sadly the numbers continue to grow. By raising money our aim is that these families can also benefit from the support that The Alzheimer's Society offers.
"Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice."
