Story

Over the years I have done a number of challenges, I have climbed Toubkal the 2nd highest mountain in Africa, I have climbed Mount Olympus and Trekked to Machu Pichu. I then did a little bit of running, well a lot of running actually, 50 half marathons including one in every country in Western Europe, finishing on the week of my 50th Birthday with a Half Marathon in the Artic Circle, in the middle of winter, in the dark and on Ice. Sadly a little inconvenience of falling off a mountain in Spain a couple of years ago finished my running career (and got me a free helicopter ride of the mountain side). So it is time to get back on the bike (literally) and raise some money for a couple of great charities.

Over the summer I will be taking part in 3 challenging bike rides, The Beast of Durham, The Great North Bike Ride and Transaid’s Newcastle to Edinburgh bike ride. The first is the Beast of Durham on 15th June. Everyone I have mentioned this too, including experienced cyclist respond with the same words “Oh that’s a tough one”. 60 miles, 18 climbs and over 6400ft of climbing around the great county of Durham.

Second challenge will be the Great North Bike Ride on 25th August, a 60 mile ride from Seahouses on the beautiful Northumberland Coast back to Tynemouth on the banks of the river Tyne.

The final challenge is a two day ride from Newcastle to Edinburgh, organised by Transaid. This is a 160 mile ride, day 1 is a 90 mile ride to Berwick, then followed on day 2 by a 70 mile ride into Edinburgh. I am hoping to raise a minimum of £1400 for each of these two great charities, please support through this page for Transaid or my other Justgiving page for Cancer Research (or if you are felling generous you could support on both) Thanks for taking the time to read this. This website is linked to my Strava so I can’t not do any training, or you would all know. Nigel
