Story
I'm joining the 12 mile Dronfield Four Peaks Community Walk to raise £500 for Dronfield 2gether (https://dronfield2gether.wordpress.com/) and Life Dronfield (https://lifedronfield.org/).
Half the money will go toward the next D2g Community Get2gether on 25 October. There'll be entertainment and over twenty local clubs, groups and societies promoting some of the great activities taking place in and around the town. A little more cash is needed to make sure it is the success it deserves to be.
The other half of the money will go to Life Dronfield. They provide play groups, lunches, business networking and more in the former Church Hall. Further funds will allow them to expand their activities whilst renovating their historic building.
The walk begins and ends at the Hyde Park Inn, Hill Top. This was run by my great grandparents before they handed it on to their daughter, Lilly, and her husband, John Arthur Young. My gran is second from the right in the pic, taken in 1910 at the time of the coronation of George V.
Apperknowle is where I lived for 12 years and played cricket for the village team (best bowling figures 7-14). The pic from a winter net proves I haven't always had a bad back and I did once have hair !
The next sporting pic is my daughter in 1996. She played football (far better than me!) in Coal Aston for the Dronfield Sports Centre team. They also won the county schools cup representing Fanshawe.
Finally, there is Holmesfield, the last resting place of both my parents.
Anything you can donate to help me contribute something back to the community that has given me and my family so much will be gratefully received.
