The Bantham Swoosh and Boomerang are world class swims in the Avon (Aune) estuary in Devon. The estuary is both shallow and sandy bottomed so you might spot the local crabs cruising around the river bed beneath you.

Story

Three swimmers. One brilliant cause.

In June 2027, Nigel, Jackie and Cat are taking on the Bantham Boomerang in Devon.

It starts on Bantham Beach – you swim up the River Avon on the incoming tide, going as far as you can before the tide turns. Then it's time to spin around and let the outgoing tide carry you all the way back to Bantham. If we push ourselves, we could clock up a 10K swim.

Now, if you know us, you'll know this bit isn't exactly out of character. We love swimming. Open water, lidos, pools, rivers... if there's water, we'll probably be in it. So we'd never usually ask people to sponsor us for doing something we'd be doing anyway.

But this time feels different.

We're using our love of swimming to raise money for Level Water – an incredible charity that provides one-to-one swimming lessons for children with disabilities.

Swimming is so much more than exercise. It's confidence. Freedom. Independence. Safety. Fun. Yet 36% of disabled children are excluded from physical activity, meaning many miss out on all of those benefits. Last year alone, Level Water funded 50,000 adapted swimming lessons across the UK, helping thousands of children discover what the water can do for them.

The best bit? Just £15 pays for one lesson. One lesson that could be the start of a child's lifelong love of swimming.

As swimmers, we know how lucky we are to be able to jump in the water whenever we want. Every child deserves the chance to experience that same sense of freedom, confidence and achievement.

If you'd like to support us, we'd be hugely grateful. Every donation, big or small, will help more children experience the confidence, freedom and pure joy that swimming has given the three of us.

Thanks so much for cheering us on—and if nothing else, your donation will help make all those chilly training swims feel even more worthwhile!
