Clipper 2025-26 Race · 11 May 2025 to 30 November 2026 · Start fundraising for this event
Hi all
I'll be taking part in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2025-26 edition while raising money for the wonderful charity UNICEF. I'm doing Leg 3, the Roaring 40's or "Southern Ocean Sleigh Ride" as some people refer to it. Wet and cold, hot-bunking and living at 45 degrees while racing on a 4 hours on/off shift pattern. Here's a taste of what I'm looking forward to - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=861lbJmVeSg.
My race departs Cape Town in early November. We head south into the roaring 40's and travel approximately 4,800 nautical miles over roughly 25 days before we arrive in Western Australia. We can experience 20 metre waves while sailing downwind at speeds of over 30 knots in a 70 foot Clipper, should be exhilarating! https://www.clipperroundtheworld.com/the-race/leg/leg-3
As some of you will know I am a complete sailing novice. However, the opportunity to learn to sail while experiencing a once in a lifetime adventure has proven to be irresistible...and Clipper ticked all the boxes.
I'm delighted to be our Team's Charity Fund Raising Co-ordinator. That means I'm responsible for co-ordinating the fund raising efforts of our 49 global crew members. Our team is committed to the highest standards in everything we do. That means we are as keen to put as much effort into raising money for UNICEF, as we are about winning the race around the world.
We are proud to be associated with UNICEF and anything you can donate would be very warmly received.
many thanks
Nigel
UNICEF has been both a Charity and Team Partner for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race since the 2015-16 edition and during this time has raised £1.6 million for children around the world.
UNICEF has 15,000 people working for children in more than 190 countries, responding to emergencies and building long-term resilience. We save children's lives with vaccines, clean water, and therapeutic food. We protect children from violence, exploitation, and abuse. We empower children through quality education. And we seek to create a safe and sustainable world where children can live, learn and grow.
Every pound you raise will make a difference to every child, every day, everywhere.
- A donation of £165 could buy a wheelchair for a child with limited mobility
- A donation of £275 could buy a midwifery kit containing all of the medicines, medical supplies and sterilisation equipment for a maternity ward to support the delivery of 50 babies
