Climbing Kilimanjaro for Maggies Centre · 19 June 2025
Hey Guys,
Welcome to my page!
As some of you know for the last 5 months I have dedicated my weekends to hiking. I have upped my gym sessions and joined a hiking club. I have been completely sober since January and shifted eating habits too.
This June I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, a bucket list dream of mine and a challenge that I have always dreamt of completing. I have decided to complete this hike in memory of my Aunty Di, who we devastatingly lost to cancer in 2023.
My Aunty Di was my Godmother and I couldn’t have wished for a better role model in life. She was a massive part of both my childhood and adulthood. She helped shape who I am today. She was a wonderful Aunty to my sister and I, Mother to both my cousins, Wife to my Uncle and best friend and sister to my Mum.
From the date she found out until the date she passed, which was less than four months, she was an absolute warrior and I feel so lucky that she was a massive part of our lives.
I will be flying from the UK to Tanzania on 12th June 2025 and will be starting the hike on 14th June 2025. I will be summiting Mount Kilimanjaro on 19th June 2025, something which is likely to take 15 hours. The peak of Kilimanjaro is at an elevation of 5,895m and temperatures can reach -25 degrees.
This is going to be both mentally and physically challenging. I experienced difficulties with altitude in Peru in 2023 and ended up on oxygen but nothing will stop me from reaching the Kilimanjaro summit.
I am fundraising for Maggies Centre, a specialist cancer charity which offers psychological support to those going through cancer treatment, and their families. The charity offers advice on nutrition, cancer symptoms, exercise and relaxation therapies. As well as space and guidance for loved ones to come to terms with the trauma.
They supported both my Aunt and Uncle, and were an incredible strength - from offering space to just sit quietly to connecting with others going through the same thing.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my Justgiving page and making such a worthwhile donation. It is hugely appreciated!
Love Nikki xx
