The Children’s Wood is an award-winning urban wild space in Glasgow. We host a programme of outdoor learning for local schools and nurseries, run an outdoor toddler group and gardening groups, and hold an imaginative mix of outdoor public events that promote community cohesion and climate learning.

Story

Hello! Thanks for stopping by our JustGiving page. We're a couple of young cousins who are super excited to be running 2.5km in the Great Scottish Run 2024 to raise money for The Children's Wood. https://thechildrenswood.co.uk/

The Children’s Wood in the west-end of Glasgow is vitally important to our local community - providing free events, playgroups, outdoor education and food growing that connect local people to nature and improve wellbeing.

The Children’s Wood is situated in an area of great inequality. We partner with schools and nurseries to improve educational attainment and life chances for children and young people. In addition, our year-round programme of public events helps build community and intergenerational connections.

We work closely with 10 local schools, 8 nurseries, various community groups, universities and colleges, with a focus on nurturing classes within school establishments as well as 4 special needs schools; welcoming refugees and asylum seekers, people of colour/ ethnic minority groups, international students, our neighbours and our local community.

In a world where children and young people struggle with mental health and too much screen time, the Children’s Wood offers children, young people and families the chance to reconnect with nature and the outdoors and improve wellbeing.

We need £12,000 to install a water and electricity connection. Think of what we could do if we got these! This page is part of a bigger fundraising initative.

A water connection is essential for the hydration and maintenance of the community garden, allotments and orchard. Water would also enable equipment to be washed on the land after use, important for hygiene and time management!

Electricity would enable the shed to be kept dry which is essential for the storage of play and garden equipment. At present mould is a major problem, damaging learning materials and play equipment and carrying a risk to health. Moisture destroys seeds and wood, and rust damages tools, reducing their lifespan. Electricity would provide a connection for a dehumidifier and lighting for visibility. Staff and volunteers could also get drinking water and hot drinks.

Time to dig deep and support this vital community organisation.
