Story
On 5 September 2026, I'm walking 55km (34miles) from Eastbourne to Brighton along the South Downs, for SLOW, and for Rosie.
Rosie is my daughter. She was born in April 2006 and lived for six days. She would have turned 20 this year.
I work as Director of SLOW - Surviving the Loss of Your World - a brilliant charity that provides peer-led bereavement support for parents and siblings who have lost a child or a brother or sister. I didn't find SLOW because of a job advert. I found it because I know, in the most profound way, what it means to need it.
SLOW creates spaces where people don't have to explain themselves. Where the worst thing that has happened to you can be spoken about openly and honestly, there's no grief too heavy that can't be bought into the room. It's a place where you are truly understood.
Every pound you donate helps us run those groups - for parents wherever they are in their grief, and for the brothers and sisters who've lost a sibling, who so often grieve in silence. SLOW's support has no end date - just like grief. We're here whenever families need us.
The South Downs route will take me through some of the most beautiful landscape in England (I'm allowed to say that, it's my backyard) and some of the hardest terrain. Plenty of Ups and plenty of downs - as a bereaved mum I know how to navigate those.
Thank you for being part of this with me. Let's goooooooo!!!!
